GET A JOB FLYING CORPORATE JETS AS A LOW TIME PILOT

The title sounds super clickbait but it’s not. Not really surprised because the channel owner and the guests are very knowledgeable guys.

Of course, it’s easier said than done but this could be a viable option for some of us.

It’s a long video, I get that. They have chapters set up so you can skip to the parts you’re interested in.

If you can watch the entire thing, bookmark it for tonight, but here are a few takeaways from what they were talking about…

CFI is the best way to go from zero to hero unless…

If we disregard the absence of desire to teach, CFI is the best AND fastest route to take, I think we all know that.

But there are exceptions. Life circumstances (living in a quiet town, family situation…) can get in the way.

That’s why Sean and Mike, who are corporate pilots and the video’s guests, are helping new pilots get into the corporate world. They encourage you to go out and find that guy who’s looking for someone to ride right-seat on their jet because it exists.

You can check out their podcast on youtube where they talk about skipping the CFI route (link). They also have a video on Flight Time Building Jobs (link)

A loophole to unloggable SIC time in jets…

If you’re not familiar with the whole SIC hours thing, let me briefly explain.

A pilot who wants to fly any aircraft weighing above 12,500 lbs max gross takeoff weight and/or with a turbojet engine needs to hold a type rating for that aircraft.

And these aircrafts typically require two pilots, at which point both log time as PIC and SIC respectively.

That’s why you can’t log SIC time on Caravans or Beech 200s: they don’t require a type rating.

Now exceptions are made with the PDP and insurance have their own say in that whole thung too but let’s not get into all that today.

They were talking about how in Part 91 operations (= corporate), FAR 61.55 allows a type-rated pilot to certify his own copilot to log SIC in their type after some training in the aircraft. Copilot then gets to legally log SIC.

Pretty sweet!

Finding the opportunities…

You best watch the video for this part but what’s interesting here is they have (bought) a list of all the Part 135 operators. Reminds you of something? šŸ˜

I really wish there was a such a thing for Part 91 low time ops. Maybe there is, probably should ask them where they bought theirs…

Airline VS Corporate…

I personally don’t know yet if I even want to do either. Of course, I’ll try the 121 world and decide then, maybe I’ll love it!

But to quote them: ā€œIt doesn’t matter what you want to do, it’s all about the journey [obviously you’re gonna kind of guide your steps toward your goals], the direction you want to go at the beginning of your career doesn’t matter.ā€

You’ll cross that bridge as you get there.

I think it was a cool video so I wanted to share.

Corporate pilots making videos…

Lots of interesting youtube channels about the corporate world that I’ve watched recently. Insightful, I kind of fly corporate currently if you can call it that (haha) but the jets are another beast. Great money.

Of course, there’s always more than what the videos show so I have links here if you’re interested in the corporate thing.

Pretty good numbers right?

But to see the other side, not talked about, check out what Reddit has to say (link).

That’s it for today, I hope you got some value out of these links.

We have a community report on American Patrols scheduled for Sunday. Trying to have one a week, don’t miss out.

If you have suggestions, please, reply to this email. I don’t know what you like or not if no one tells me. I promise I read every reply, I just had an issue with my inbox lately, should be good now.
