Our Plans for 2025
What’s next? Let’s decide together.
New Year, New Newsletter? 🍾
After a quick rewind of 2024, today we’ll talk about what we’re planning for 2025, all based on an overview of the past posts’ performance.
What do these numbers mean? well, they show what you liked and found useful. So, what are we doing in 2025? more. just more.
Three main topics in today’s email: the deep dive series are (finally) coming back, we’ll keep the community notes rolling, and the new “job board.”
If you’re a recent subscriber, you may not understand some of the things I’m talking about today. That’s fine. Stick around and it’ll make sense eventually!
The goal of this newsletter hasn’t changed: centralize EVERYTHING related to finding low time pilot jobs. Having a single place to start off of should make your search a lot smoother. And that’s what we hope to achieve with these “changes.”
YOU PICK THE NEXT DEEP DIVE… 🫵
At first, I researched and wrote about whatever I felt was interesting. That’s why we had a full series of deep dives on aerial imagery companies: to me, flying survey is the best low time pilot job.
But every other email, I’d get replies from readers with completely different backgrounds than mine, for whom being sent on the road for months straight wasn’t that appealing. It’s just the “young guy with no commitment” VS the “older guy with a wife and kids” thing.
Going into 2025, I’d like to dive more into what’s relevant to everyone, not just me.
Here’s a 30-second survey for you to let me know what you’d like to read about. [click here]
I particularly like this section because it answers common questions (resume advice, networking tips, hiring seasonality…) and keeps you and me up-to-date on what’s going on in the industry.
Lots of things are happening in aviation, but only some are relevant to us low time peeps. Do I really need to be reading about furloughs happening at Spirit, how single-pilot airliners are coming or how the US pilot shortage is a big marketing stunt? Yet, that’s all the algorithm keeps pushing on my feed, to the detriment of insightful but less popular low time job discussions.
In case you miss something cool related to our market, the Community Notes will have it covered and summed up.
JOB BOARD. 🔜
Based on last year’s analytics, job listings are highly appreciated (cf. the Aperture Aviation email). The problem is, getting actual listings every week, that’s unrealistic. Not only is hiring mostly seasonal (skydive, banner, survey…), but few companies actually have open slots advertised too.
What could be useful and doable on a regular basis is a periodic curation of the job boards out there: only list positions advertised on paid/unpaid aviation job boards that are low time (sub-1000 hours). We ran something similar earlier this year for climbto350, really just a nice-to-have for the convenience of not having to sort through it yourself everyday. I figured, if I’m going to do it for myself already, maybe the others would like to participate.
If you want us to give that another go, reply with “yes” and if we have enough takers, I’ll set it up.
Definitely won’t be priced as high as regular job boards, although will probably be way more valuable. I’m thinking $5 a month, and no annual option because no one wants to be job hunting for a year—ask me how I know.
Good idea or meh? let me know.
I’m also putting together an updated list of low time pilot jobs, should be ready for next week. Here’s a recap of how getting a job as a low time pilot works (facebook link), a must read if you’re new, so you know what to do with said updated list when it’s out.
Thanks for reading.
We’re so back. 😉
How’s *my* job search going?
We haven’t caught up in a while, so I figured I’d give a quick update: still looking!
After moving here to the US, with high hopes but missing out this survey season and running out of options, I planned on getting my CFI. Well, as I started to seriously look into it, something came up, and I had to go home (yes, to Madagascar) for some time, so the plans had to change too. Regardless of these setbacks, my journey in the US has been an amazing experience so far. I appreciate your kind messages, and no need to feel bad. Although I definitely underestimated how hard it is to actually get a flying job, I’m still living the dream!
Knocked out my HP endorsement right before leaving, and I’ll be back by the time skydiving season hits.
So, I have a few weeks dedicated to this newsletter, to finally secure myself a flying job this time around. Persistency is key, right?
We’ll see how it goes.
had to get endorsed in a C182 because of how many low time jobs operate it
