feat. Fly the Whale (now hiring) and an ad-hoc update on the community list

ā€œHey Ivan, we havenā€™t gotten an ad-hoc update in a while, whatā€™s taking you so long?ā€

Thatā€™s probably what youā€™re thinking. Today, I only have 3 real new names for us. Let me explainā€¦

ADDED TO THE LIST

World Skydiving Center: 300TT, 5 hours in C182

Handel Aviation: 500TT

Hawkeye Helicopters: 500TT

Just want the info on the now-hiring-job? scroll all the way to the end

Iā€™ve been putting up a list of low-hour-friendly companies with their hiring minimums these first 3 months. As briefed at the beginning earlier this year, weā€™re now focusing on getting more information about them.

I will keep sending ad-hoc updates when I come across ā€œnewā€ low time jobs. However as Iā€™ve been made aware of, the list is cool but it doesnā€™t do *that* much in helping you get a job.

So I created a private Facebook Group. Its purpose:

  • Only allow admins to post in the group, so thereā€™s no ā€œirrelevantā€ posts

  • Add employers, recruiters from companies hiring low time (lots of them use Facebook)

  • Give them admin role

  • Have them post about their current job openings

  • You and I can ask questions in the postā€™s comments section

Could be nice, right?

This is also a step into a community/networking opportunity.

Although Iā€™ve had the pleasure of talking to some of you, the newsletter format is very one-sided. In the group, weā€™ll get the chance to discuss things among ourselves.

Itā€™s also a place where Iā€™ll ask for feedback. I know I can ask on here, but I want to keep the newsletter what it is, a newsletter. That way you only get the content you sign up for.

And lastly, but also probably the most important, the easy-to-access factor.

About 3 days ago, Fly The Whale posted they were looking for seaplane pilots. I reached out to the Director of Operations and to the Assistant Chief Pilot for more information. I couldā€™ve just sent an email about the opportunity, THEN another one with the ā€œinterviewā€ 2 days later, but thatā€™s too many emails for too little value.

Thereā€™s also the off-the-clock updates. Too short, they donā€™t belong here.

A Facebook group solves these ā€œissuesā€, itā€™s great for quick unscheduled updates. The emails can be focused on long-form content (community report, lists, deep divesā€¦)

In short, groups with all their features solve the lacking sense of community we had. This newsletter might as well now become a job listing service (just kidding, still not happening).

Are we on our way to a restricted community?

Well, if itā€™s beneficial (it probably is) then yeah, sure.

Thatā€™s exactly why the group is private. We need to have good quality members to attract companies. I have no idea YET how exactly weā€™re going to do that, but it starts by making the process of joining the group so hard that only people who really want in, get in.

Donā€™t worry, itā€™s free to join. For now. (šŸ¤Ŗ)

On a more serious note, if you want to help actually build a community/network, please, join the group. Thereā€™s just a google form Iā€™d like you to fill out before, and youā€™re all set. Helps me qualify the members, so you must complete the survey to get in. Sorry, not sorry.

TL;DR

We have a facebook group now. If you want timely, shorter content, and participate in what we do with this newsletter, fill out the form and join up! Weā€™re on messenger too.

šŸ³ ā€” Fly The Whale is looking for SICs

Iā€™ll have a separate email with Dylanā€™s ā€œinterviewā€. Iā€™ll post the questionnaire I send each future interviewees in the facebook group, Iā€™d love your input.

Get a chance to voice what you think we should be asking. Join the group!

šŸ“¦ ā€” CSA Air, PDP approved

It essentially means theyā€™re about to advertise C208 SIC positions too. Itā€™s not up on their website yet, but as a FedEx feeder, you can expect the same minimums as the other companies: 800TT.

You meet the minimum experience and would like flying the Caravan? Keep an eye out for the announcement!

Follow these 2 steps to join the community:

1ļøāƒ£ ā€” Welcome survey, gain access to our private Facebook Group by completing it (link)

2ļøāƒ£ ā€” The Road to 1500 (newsletter community), because itā€™s a hidden group, I apparently canā€™t have a permanent link here.

Send a message to our Facebook Page (link) when youā€™re done with the survey and Iā€™ll send you a link. I ask for feedback in there, nothing too crazy but youā€™re absolutely welcome to join.
