AD-HOC UPDATE ON THE COMMUNITY LIST

I’m not very consistent or predictable with my updates, I know.

I’d love to stick to a schedule, but if I feel I have enough news for a new edition, why wait?

CURRENTLY HIRING

Redtail Air is accepting applications for the 2024 season, which begins in March 2024. Candidates must meet the experience requirements outlined in FAR 135.243(b): 500TT 100XC 25XCN. Backcountry, tailwheel, mountain flying, and high-performance experience will be looked on favorably. Apply today for immediate consideration.

Sol Aerial Surveys is also looking for one pilot to start in 2024. You’ll fly multi-engine aircrafts so they require more time on the class: 450TT 80ME. This most likely matters for some people: it’s a home-based position with a 16/12 schedule. Apply here.

WHAT’S UP WITH THE 500TT 100XC 25XCN REQUIREMENT

§ 135.243 Pilot in command qualifications.

(b) Except as provided in paragraph (a) of this section, no certificate holder may use a person, nor may any person serve, as pilot in command of an aircraft under VFR unless that person—

(1) Holds at least a commercial pilot certificate with appropriate category and class ratings and, if required, an appropriate type rating for that aircraft; and

(2) Has had at least 500 hours time as a pilot, including at least 100 hours of cross-country flight time, at least 25 hours of which were at night; and

(3) For an airplane, holds an instrument rating or an airline transport pilot certificate with an airplane category rating;

So it’s the experience one must have to be PIC under VFR for a 135 operator. A first officer won’t need to meet those requirements.

HERE’S MY QUESTION FOR YOU

It doesn’t seem like Tailwind will ever reply to my email asking what their hiring requirements are.

Does anyone have information on that?

You can reply to this email, comment on our blogpost or shoot me a dm.

I’m counting on you for this one. 🫡

Et voilà, I hope this issue was valuable to you.

If you ever have any suggestions, any company you can’t find information on, anything really, never hesitate to ask me. Can’t promise I’ll have the answer, but we’ll look for it together.

This is what this community is for. 😉
